So, since I live in Asia I discovered many new fruits and vegetables with the craziest shapes, colors and taste.
One of the them is called Sapodilla– with its oval form and brownish skin, this tropical fruit has a grainy texture and a sweet, musky-cinnamon-like flavor. It contains a lot of fiber and potassium and is quite high in calories (almost like bananas). They are particularly good when very ripe and soft. Find more info here.
After having eaten a lot of fresh ones, I decided to make jam out of it. I added a couple of bananas and extra cinnamon spice to enhance their natural flavor.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg Sapodillas (best when very ripe)
- 4-5 ripe bananas
- 1 apple (for the pectine)
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
Prepare the fruits and chop in small pieces. Add the sugar and the cinnamon and let it rest for 1 or 2 hours so that the fruits can absorb the sugar. Then, bring to boil and decrease the heat after 10 minutes. Let the jam slowly simmer for 2 hours minimum. Add water if necessary. At the end, boil again for 2 minutes before pouring into sterilized glasses.
Enjoy with fresh bread or in your yoghurt!
